Where would you best utilize more space? Designing with concealed carriers can give you 8-10 inches of additional space in the bathroom, but is that what is needed? Moving walls at initial design can enhance gathering spaces like kitchens, family rooms or even add the opportunity for a walk in closet feel.
Conversely it may be exactly what is needed in a remodel where moving a structural wall can be costly and in a "Living in Place“ scenario more is needed to accommodate the active adult’s needs and access.
Metropolitan cost per square foot to build is at a premium and getting units sold over the competition can be the enhanced with an extra 10 inches to add to the ledge of the island in the kitchen for a couple of chairs. That simple addition can help the developer sell their properties faster at the prices they want.
